HAND-CARVED SHELL CAMEO LIGHT (1930/50)
£95
As soon as you plug this in, everyone goes Oooh! And the reason they do that is because it is just SO magical. As you can see from the pictures, it is a shell and the whole of one side has been carved out, just like a cameo, layer by layer, to reveal different colours as you work your way down. It is a very difficult technique, and as you get closer to the last layer, one slip could ruin it completely. This one has a beautiful scene of stylised trees in the foreground, a bridge, water and some sailing boats, some little buildings in the background and mountains and what looks to be a volcano with smoke coming out of the top. It really is gorgeous. This one has been turned into a lamp, and Its impossible to show you how it looks when it is lit up, but just believe me when I say it is amazing. It is in perfect condition, and sits on a base of perspex and chrome-coloured metal. It also has flex and a plug on the end and is ready just to switch on!
